Overview & Suitability
The facility at 300-398 W Harris St represents the southern entrance and facade of Savannah's city-owned Liberty Street Parking Garage. Occupying an entire city block, this multi-level parking deck accommodates up to 881 vehicles and is perfectly suited for standard passenger cars, minivans, and mid-sized SUVs. Due to overhead clearance and layout constraints, it is not suitable for oversized RVs, campers, or large commercial motorhomes.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
Vehicles can access the garage via entrances and exits located along W. Liberty Street (north side), W. Harris Street (south side), and Jefferson Street (east side). The garage boasts an exceptionally generous maximum vertical clearance of 8 feet 2 inches (8'2" or 2.49 meters), which easily accommodates taller SUVs and trucks that often struggle in other historic downtown decks. Navigating the interior is straightforward with clearly marked lanes, color-coded elevator lobbies, and well-designed ramps.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
As one of Savannah's most economical parking structures, the rates are structured as follows:
- Weekday Hourly Rate: $1.00 per hour (Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
- Weekday Night Rate: $2.00 flat rate (Monday–Friday, 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM).
- Weekday Daily Maximum: $14.00 (Monday–Thursday) and $17.00 (Friday).
- Weekend Flat Rate: $5.00 flat rate per day (Saturday and Sunday, 5:00 AM to 5:00 AM; subject to change during major special events).
- Monthly Rates: Daytime-only passes (Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM) are available for $40.00, while 24/7 unlimited access passes cost $70.00.
The exit verifiers and pay stations accept credit cards (specifically MasterCard and Visa) only; cash is currently not accepted at this location. Parking is on a first-come, first-served basis, and online pre-booking for daily visitors is not available.
Security & Amenities
Managed by the City of Savannah’s Mobility & Parking Services, the facility provides a secure parking environment. It is equipped with security cameras (CCTV) throughout the decks and benefits from dedicated police patrols. Bright, modern lighting ensures excellent visibility at night. Additional amenities include wheelchair-accessible parking spaces, direct elevator access, pedestrian-friendly stairwells on the southeast and southwest corners, and on-site EV charging stations.
Strategic Alternative
Situated just one block off the Montgomery Street exit of Interstate 16, this garage acts as the ideal gateway parking hub for those entering Savannah. It provides a vastly cheaper alternative to expensive hotel valet options or premium-priced private decks. It is highly convenient for visitors heading to the Savannah Civic Center, the Savannah Visitor Center, local historic squares (such as Orleans and Pulaski Squares), or taking a short walk to the bustling dining and shopping spots of the Historic District.
