Overview & Suitability
The Central Parking Deck is a massive, eight-story parking structure situated on the Kennesaw Campus of Kennesaw State University (KSU) at 525 Parliament Garden Way NW. Offering approximately 2,700 parking spaces, this highly utilized multi-level facility serves as a primary parking hub for KSU students, faculty, and staff. It is designed to accommodate standard passenger vehicles, such as sedans, SUVs, and standard-sized pickup trucks. Because the facility is heavily integrated into a bustling university campus, it is restricted to permitted university affiliates during typical operation hours, meaning recreational vehicles (RVs), trailers, motorhomes, and oversized commercial vehicles are strictly prohibited from parking here.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
Entering and navigating the Central Parking Deck requires attention to the facility's dimensions and height limitations. The maximum vehicle clearance height is strictly set at 8 feet (8'0" or 2.43 meters), which is clearly posted at all deck entrances. High-profile vehicles, lifted trucks, or vehicles carrying roof-mounted cargo should seek alternative surface lots nearby to prevent structural and vehicle damage. Maneuvering through the multi-level ramps can feel tight during peak class times (typically between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM), and drivers should exercise caution around sharp turns, pedestrian crosswalks, and high-foot-traffic areas near the pedestrian bridge that connects the deck directly to the campus core.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Under standard daily operations, access to the Central Parking Deck requires a virtual parking permit (linked to the vehicle's license plate via License Plate Recognition, or LPR). Registered student permits cost approximately $110 per semester ($220 annually), while KSU alumni can purchase a visitor-area parking permit for $23.00 per month. General visitors are not permitted to park inside the deck during standard hours and must use the adjacent Lot V2 (Visitor Lot) or Lot J, which charge visitor rates of $3.00 for the first hour up to a $12.00 daily maximum, payable via the ParkMobile app (Zone 35101) or on-site pay-per-plate kiosks. However, for major campus-wide events, graduations, and high school commencement ceremonies, the deck often transitions to a pay-on-arrival model, charging a flat event rate of $10.00 per vehicle, payable strictly by credit or debit card (no cash accepted).
Security & Amenities
Kennesaw State University maintains a robust security profile for its parking facilities. The Central Parking Deck is equipped with overhead lighting, active surveillance cameras (CCTV) monitored by the KSU Police Department, and regular safety patrols. In terms of modern convenience, the facility features multiple elevator banks, clear wayfinding signage, and ADA-compliant accessible parking stalls. Pedestrians can safely bypass vehicular traffic using the integrated pedestrian bridge that links the deck directly to the Student Center, Academic Learning Center, and central Campus Green.
Strategic Alternative
Beyond daily academic use, the Central Parking Deck serves as a highly strategic parking option for major on-campus events. It acts as the primary parking location for graduates and overflow guests attending commencement ceremonies at the nearby Convocation Center and the Siegel Student Recreation and Activities Center. It is also an excellent starting point for those visiting the Bailey Performing Arts Center, located just a scenic 6-minute walk away, or fans catching KSU Owls games at Fifth Third Stadium, with the university's free Big Owl Bus shuttle providing easy transit connections across the campus grounds.
