Overview & Suitability
The Church Street Garage is a primary parking facility located on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. It serves as a convenient parking hub for students, faculty, staff, and visitors attending events at nearby university venues, including Northrop Memorial Auditorium. The facility is strictly an indoor garage for standard passenger vehicles; it is not designed for oversized vehicles, RVs, or trailers.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
The facility is an underground garage with a strict maximum vehicle height clearance of 7 feet. Users should be aware that 80 Church Street SE is also identified as 17th Avenue SE on certain street signage, which can cause confusion; specifically, the street is labeled as 17th Avenue SE when north of University Avenue and Church Street SE when south of it. Drivers are advised to navigate carefully to ensure they do not miss the entrance.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Parking rates follow the University of Minnesota's standard structure:
- Weekdays (9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.): $3.00/hour
- All other times: $1.00/hour
- Daily maximum: $15.00
Payment procedures typically involve taking a ticket upon entry. For those with specific pre-arranged event or research study reservations, instructions may differ, and users should follow any provided guidance or speak with attendants if present.
Security & Amenities
The garage is managed by the University of Minnesota Parking & Transportation Services. Security is maintained as part of the campus-wide safety initiative. The facility is equipped with Level 2 EV charging stations located on the ground floor at the south end of the structure near the main entrance/exit. While the garage is well-integrated into the campus, it is recommended to observe the 10 mph campus speed limit.
Strategic Alternative
This garage serves as an ideal parking alternative for those visiting the East Bank of the University of Minnesota campus. It is a preferred option for attendees of events at Northrop Auditorium and provides a central, sheltered location for those visiting campus departments, such as the Department of Psychology in Elliott Hall.
