Overview & Suitability
Driftwood Beach Parking, located along North Loop Trail on Jekyll Island, provides primary access for visitors looking to explore one of Georgia\'s most iconic coastal landscapes. The parking infrastructure consists of several small, unpaved lots situated near beach access points. These areas are designed for standard passenger vehicles; however, space is limited and highly competitive during peak weekend hours and tourist seasons. Visitors are strongly encouraged to arrive at sunrise or early in the morning to secure a spot.
Access & Navigation
Access to the beach area is straightforward once you are on the island, but motorists should be aware of the following:
- Access requires an initial vehicle entry fee upon arriving at the Jekyll Island causeway.
- Parking areas are located approximately 15 minutes from the main island toll station.
- Roadways are well-signposted, but the parking lots are rustic and lack paved surfaces, which may be uneven.
Parking Rates & Logistics
While parking at the specific beach access lots is generally free of charge, all vehicles must pay the mandatory Jekyll Island daily parking/entry fee to gain access to the island itself.
- Island Entry Fee: $6.00 per vehicle (subject to change).
- Booking: There is no pre-booking system for these public beach parking lots.
- Payment: The island entry fee is collected at the toll gate via card or cash.
Security & Amenities
Please note that these parking areas are natural, coastal-side locations and offer minimal infrastructure:
- Facilities: There are no public restrooms, changing facilities, or rinsing stations available at the parking sites.
- Security: These are remote, unstaffed public parking zones without CCTV surveillance or dedicated lighting.
- Recommendations: Visitors should secure all valuables inside their vehicles and avoid leaving items in plain sight.
Strategic Alternatives
Due to the limited capacity of the lots adjacent to the beach trail, if you find these areas full, it is recommended to utilize larger centralized parking zones near other major Jekyll Island attractions. From these secondary locations, visitors can utilize island bike paths or walking trails to reach the beach area comfortably.
