Overview & Suitability
The Arts District Garage is a premier, four-story underground parking facility serving the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. This city-owned garage is designed for passenger vehicles and is directly attached to the south side of the Kauffman Center, offering a climate-controlled, convenient experience for event attendees. Please note that for safety reasons, motorcycles are not permitted in this facility. As the primary parking structure for the center, it is highly recommended that visitors utilize this facility for seamless access to performances.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
The garage provides multiple access points to the surrounding streets, with primary entrances located on 17th Street and Wyandotte Street. While it offers a large, 1,000-car capacity, the facility can reach maximum occupancy during popular events. Drivers are encouraged to arrive early to ensure entry. Because the Kauffman Center is situated in a dense urban environment, visitors should plan their routes to avoid heavy pre-show traffic, particularly at the I-35 exit onto Broadway.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Parking rates are structured to incentivize advanced planning:
- Event Pricing: $16 when purchased in advance; $20 when paying upon arrival.
- Non-Event Pricing: $2 per hour with a daily maximum of $13.
- Payment Methods: The garage operates as a cashless facility. Only credit and debit cards are accepted.
- Booking: Pre-purchasing a parking pass is strongly encouraged as it guarantees a reserved spot, even if the garage reaches capacity. Passes can be purchased online or by calling the ticket office.
Security & Amenities
The Arts District Garage is a modern, well-lit structure that provides a safe and secure environment for patrons. Key amenities include:
- Direct, indoor attachment to the Kauffman Center for easy access during inclement weather.
- Electric vehicle charging stations located on level 3 (north wall and west of the elevator lobby).
- Accessible parking spaces available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Valet parking services are available for most events (advanced booking recommended).
Strategic Alternative
The facility serves as a vital hub for the Crossroads Arts District. Beyond its primary role for Kauffman Center events, it acts as a strategic base for visitors exploring the vibrant downtown Kansas City area, including nearby dining and nightlife in the Power & Light District. For those unable to secure a spot in the primary garage, the Webster Garage at 17th & Wyandotte offers an excellent nearby alternative.
