The parking facility at the Savannah Convention Center, managed by Metropolis Parking, provides modern, frictionless parking on Hutchinson Island. Comprising a newly built 900-space multi-level parking garage and multiple surface lots, the campus offers approximately 1,500 spaces. It is fully automated with computer vision technology, making it ideal for standard passenger vehicles, SUVs, and light trucks attending conventions, trade shows, and local events. Standard cars can park here seamlessly, but oversized motorhomes or RVs should contact the administration in advance, as typical parking spaces are designated for standard passenger vehicles.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
Vehicles can access the parking facility via International Drive on Hutchinson Island, easily reachable via the Talmadge Memorial Bridge. The parking garage has a height clearance suitable for standard passenger cars, minivans, and SUVs, though heavy-duty or oversized vehicles should utilize the open-air surface lots to avoid clearance limitations. The facility offers wide lanes, making navigation simple even during peak event arrival and departure hours. It is also designed with full accessibility in mind, providing ample designated handicap-accessible spaces, convenient curb cuts for wheelchairs, and designated passenger drop-off zones.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Parking rates are charged on a flat-rate per-entry basis:
- Surface Lot: $10.00 per entry
- Parking Garage: $20.00 per entry
- Overflow Lot: $5.00 per entry (available during peak attendance events and includes shuttle service to the main building)
Note that there are no in-and-out privileges; each exit and re-entry counts as a new visit. A grace period of 30 minutes is offered upon entry, allowing drivers to leave without charge. This facility utilizes Metropolis Parking's frictionless, pay-by-phone computer vision system. First-time visitors scan the posted QR codes, enter their license plate and payment info, and simply drive out when ready—the system automatically charges the card on file and texts a receipt. Returning registered users can simply drive in and out without scanning or stopping.
Security & Amenities
The parking areas are heavily monitored and secured under the oversight of the Savannah Convention Center Public Safety team. The campus features robust overhead lighting across both the parking decks and surface lots, as well as digital surveillance cameras. Public restrooms, dining outlets, and convention amenities are available inside the adjacent convention center during operational hours.
Strategic Alternative
This parking facility serves as an exceptionally smart, cost-effective alternative for visitors heading to the Savannah Historic District or River Street. By parking here, visitors can avoid heavy downtown traffic and high-priced municipal garages. Once parked, they can board the complimentary Savannah Belles Water Ferry at the Trade Center landing, which provides a scenic, two-minute river crossing directly to City Hall Landing and River Street, operating daily from early morning until late evening.
