Overview & Suitability
The PMC Parking Lot located at 123 W Oglethorpe Ave (at the corner of 210 Barnard Street, often referred to as the Jackson Ward Lot) is a centrally located, open-air surface parking facility operated by the Parking Management Company (PMC) in downtown Savannah's North Historic District. This lot is highly suitable for standard passenger vehicles, including sedans, SUVs, and light trucks. Because it is an open-air surface lot with standard-sized stalls, it is not configured to accommodate oversized motorhomes, heavy-duty commercial vehicles, or RVs.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
As a flat, open-air surface lot, there are no overhead height clearance restrictions, making it highly accessible for taller standard vehicles, SUVs with roof racks, and passenger vans. The lot features wide, straightforward entrances and exits off of Barnard Street and W Oglethorpe Ave, ensuring ease of navigation. Navigating the lot is simple and does not involve tight ramps or narrow spirals typical of multi-level garages.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Parking rates are subject to dynamic pricing based on demand, local events, and weekends. Hourly rates typically start at $5.00, with daily rates averaging around $25.00. For long-term users, monthly parking is available for approximately $163.95. Payment is managed securely via "PMC Pay." Upon arrival, parkers simply scan the posted QR codes or text the number on the PMC signage to complete a contact-free payment using a credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay—no app download is required. The platform also offers remote extensions to prevent citation or towing. Note that on Sundays, the lot is reserved during morning hours for members and visitors of the adjacent Independent Presbyterian Church.
Security & Amenities
The lot is well-lit for safety during overnight hours and features visible signage outlining payment policies and contact-free parking options. Although it is a self-parking, un-gated, and generally unstaffed facility, the site is regularly patrolled by PMC enforcement staff. The standout amenity is the digitized, phone-based management system that provides text reminders before your time expires.
Strategic Alternative
This location serves as an excellent parking alternative to crowded municipal decks like the Whitaker Street Garage or Liberty Street Garage. It provides instant walkability to a vast array of popular downtown destinations, including River Street, Ellis Square, The Collins Quarter, Leopold's Ice Cream, and the Jepson Center & Telfair Children's Art Museum, allowing you to park quickly and dive straight into historic Savannah.
