About this Location

Facility Overview

Shadyside Centre Commons is a conveniently situated open-air surface parking facility located at 5750 Centre Avenue in Pittsburgh’s bustling East End, directly serving the commercial, medical, and retail corridor between Shadyside and East Liberty. Designed with wide vehicular lanes and clear stall markings, the ground-level lot provides straightforward self-parking for daily commuters, patients visiting local medical practices, and neighborhood shoppers. Because this is an uncovered surface lot with no overhead barriers or height restrictors, it comfortably accommodates a wide spectrum of passenger vehicles, including standard sedans, compact crossovers, full-size pickup trucks, large SUVs, and high-roof work or transport vans.

Prime Location & Nearby Attractions

Situated right along Centre Avenue, this parking lot places drivers within immediate walking distance of major healthcare, retail, and dining destinations across both Shadyside and East Liberty:

UPMC Shadyside Hospital: Located less than a 5-minute walk (0.2 miles) west, offering an excellent alternative parking option for outpatients, visitors, and hospital administrative staff.
East Liberty Shopping & Dining: A brief 5-to-10-minute walk northeast to Whole Foods Market, Target, and the surrounding restaurant scene along Penn and Highland Avenues.
Walnut Street Shopping District: Roughly a 10-to-15-minute stroll south, featuring premier boutiques, Apple Store, local coffee shops, and diverse upscale dining options.
University Campuses: Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) in Oakland are easily reachable within a 5-to-10-minute drive or short transit ride.
Bakery Square: Just over 1 mile east along Penn Avenue, home to tech hubs, fitness centers, and casual eateries.

Access, Navigation & Transit Connectivity

The facility features direct vehicular ingress and egress from Centre Avenue, offering smooth turning lanes for both eastbound and westbound traffic. Drivers arriving from Interstate 376 (Parkway East) can take the Edgewood/Swissvale or Oakland/Bates exits and connect north via S. Aiken Avenue or Fifth Avenue. Transit accessibility is exceptional: the lot is located just blocks from the Negley Station on the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway, providing rapid, dedicated bus-rapid-transit (BRT) access into Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland within minutes. Visitor & Driver Tips

Traffic along Centre Avenue can peak during weekday morning and late afternoon commute hours due to medical center shift changes; plan for an extra few minutes when arriving or departing during rush periods. Pay close attention to posted parking signage and business patron regulations, as select bays may be reserved specifically for on-site clinic patients or retail customers. If you are catching the East Busway from Negley Station, arrive early on weekday mornings to secure the best spots.
