The State Street Parking Garage, officially known as the State Street Parking Garage and located at the intersection of Abercorn & State Streets in Savannah, Georgia, is a highly convenient multi-level public parking facility. Built in 1983, this multi-story garage provides 452 general parking spaces and serves as an ideal base for standard passenger vehicles, minivans, and SUVs exploring the historic downtown area. However, it is not suitable for oversized vehicles, RVs, motorhomes, or trailers due to space limitations and structural height constraints.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
The facility features a maximum height clearance of 7 feet 6 inches (2.29 meters), accommodating most standard passenger cars and light trucks. Drivers should note that the internal ramps, turns, and individual parking stalls are relatively tight and narrow, so compact or smaller vehicles are highly recommended for easier navigation. Additionally, please be prepared for stairs, as the elevators on both sides of the garage have historically suffered from frequent maintenance issues and may be out of service.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
The garage operates on a pay-on-exit or kiosk system and does not support advance online booking. It is a strictly cashless facility at the exit verifiers/kiosks, accepting only major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). The tariff structure is highly affordable, particularly during weekends:
- Weekday Hourly Rate: $2.00 per hour or portion thereof (Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM).
- Weekday Daily Maximum: $20.00.
- Friday Night Flat Rate: $2.00 (from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM).
- Weekend Flat Rate: $5.00 flat rate per day (Saturday 5:00 AM to Sunday 5:00 AM, and Sunday 5:00 AM to Monday 5:00 AM).
- Monthly Rates: $85.00 for weekday-only access (Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM) or $100.00 for standard unlimited 24/7 access. Reserved spaces are available for $180.00 per month.
- Lost Ticket Fee: $42.00.
- Note: Special event rates (ranging from $5.00 to $20.00) may preempt standard rates during major city events.
Security & Amenities
Managed by the City of Savannah's Mobility & Parking Services, the State Street Parking Garage features dedicated police patrols and active security cameras. The facility is well-lit and operates 24/7. Additional features include electric vehicle (EV) charging stations on the lower levels (with non-EV parking starting from the 3rd floor onwards), designated motorcycle spaces, and bicycle racks.

Due to its central position in the Historic Landmark District, the State Street Parking Garage is an outstanding strategic alternative to scarce and heavily monitored street parking.
