Overview & Suitability
The West Parking Deck is a modern, multi-level parking garage located on the Kennesaw Campus of Kennesaw State University (KSU) at 3510 Campus Loop Road. This facility is primary commuter parking, specifically designed for KSU students, faculty, and staff. It operates under a zone-based permit system, using digital License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology rather than physical hangtags. While primarily serving the campus population, it is strictly suited for standard passenger vehicles such as sedans, SUVs, and light trucks. The deck is not suitable for RVs, trailers, campers, or oversized commercial vehicles.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
Vehicles access the deck via Campus Loop Road. It features clear directional signage and straightforward ramp layouts. The maximum clearance height for the West Parking Deck on the Kennesaw Campus is 7 feet 2 inches (2.18 meters). Drivers of lifted trucks, vehicles equipped with cargo boxes, or roof-mounted racks should check their total height before entering. Peak congestion occurs during class transitions, particularly between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, which may require extra time to navigate and secure a spot.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Parking is managed strictly through KSU's digital portal. For regular commuters, student permits for the West Deck cost approximately $110 per semester or $220 for the full academic year. Faculty and staff permits are priced at $23 per month. For visitors on campus, nearby visitor parking lots charge $3 for the first hour and up to a maximum daily rate of $12. Visitor parking payments are contactless and must be processed via the ParkMobile app or through local pay-by-plate kiosks; cash is not accepted.
Security & Amenities
Security is maintained by the Kennesaw State University Police Department, who actively patrol the deck 24/7. The garage is well-lit and equipped with strategically placed emergency blue-light call boxes that connect directly to campus dispatch. Additionally, the deck features dedicated ADA-accessible parking spaces on multiple levels (requiring a state-issued placard) and elevator access for pedestrian convenience.
Strategic Alternative
For those attending events near the Social Sciences Building, the Carmichael Student Center, or the Student Recreation & Activities Center, the West Parking Deck is the most convenient choice. However, if the deck is fully occupied during peak hours, the nearby West Economy Lot or the campus Shuttle Lot (serviced by the free Big Owl Bus shuttle system) offer excellent, stress-free alternative parking options.
