Overview & Suitability
The City of Tybee Parking Services administrative office is located at 1509 Strand Ave, at the base of the iconic Tybee Island Pier and Pavilion. Tybee Island is a strict "pay to park" community where parking rules are enforced citywide, 365 days a year from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. This central facility serves as the administrative hub for purchasing annual parking decals, daily parking passes, senior passes, and registering motorized golf carts, as well as settling or contesting parking citations. While the office itself does not feature a large public lot, limited free parking is provided directly across the street for customers conducting official business. For general beach parking, standard passenger vehicles can easily use the extensive beachfront lots located nearby between 14th and 18th Streets.
Access, Dimensions & Clearance
The office is situated in a busy, pedestrian-heavy beach district, meaning surrounding streets can become highly congested during peak summer weekends. The visitor spaces directly across from the office are best suited for standard passenger cars and golf carts. Drivers of oversized vehicles should note strict local regulations: recreational vehicles (RVs) and motorhomes are prohibited from parking in public beach lots from March through October, but they may park along Butler Avenue/Highway 80 if they pay for all occupied spaces. Additionally, tour buses are prohibited from using public lots year-round and must park in designated spaces on Pulaski Street or 15th Street.
Parking Rates, Tariffs & Booking
Tybee Island operates a card-only, pay-and-display and virtual parking system. Coins and cash are no longer accepted at any island kiosks. Standard rates and pass options include:
- Hourly Parking: $4.00 per hour, payable via on-site Pay-and-Display kiosks or through the Park TYB mobile app (Zone 2100).
- Daily Parking Pass: $25.00 per day, which can be purchased up to 30 days in advance via TybeeIsland.CMRPay.com (valid for up to 7 consecutive days for $175.00).
- Annual Decals: Standard annual decals are available for $304.00, transferable passes for $404.00, and senior discounted passes (ages 62+) for $179.00.
- Enforcement & Fines: Expired time citations carry a $60.00 fine, while parking in a handicap space without a permit or next to a fire hydrant carries a $300.00 fine. A vehicle boot removal fee is $50.00.
Security & Amenities
The administrative office is highly visible, secure, and fully staffed during weekly business hours. The surrounding beachfront parking lots are paved, well-lit, and regularly patrolled by parking enforcement personnel and local police officers to maintain order and security. Public restrooms, beach access points, and the Tybee Pavilion are all located just steps from the office, providing excellent convenience for visitors.
Strategic Alternative
This central location serves as an excellent starting point and informational hub for anyone looking to enjoy Tybee Island's South Beach area. Parking in the surrounding South Beach lots places you directly next to the pier, beachfront boardwalks, and the vibrant shops and dining options along Tybrisa Street. It is a highly recommended stop to acquire multi-day parking passes or clarify parking regulations before exploring other parts of the island, such as North Beach or the Savannah River beach areas.
